Single Garage Conversion into Home Office & Guest Suite

This garage conversion project transformed an underused single garage into a bright, flexible, and fully habitable living space.
Designed to support modern home working while also functioning as an occasional guest bedroom with its own shower room, the conversion adds both practicality and long-term value like many of our St Albans home extensions.

The Challenge

For this garage conversion project, we provided the homeowners with our complete home extension service to repurpose a single garage attached to their detached home that no longer served a practical use.

Like many modern households, they needed additional internal space rather than vehicle storage, with the aim of creating a comfortable, versatile room that could be used daily as a home office and occasionally as a guest bedroom without compromising the existing layout of the house.

Our Solution & Design Approach

Our garage conversion design approach focused on making the best possible use of the existing structure while ensuring the new space met all requirements for habitable use.

The straightforward layout allowed the design team to easily plan a flexible work-from-home space with an integrated shower room, providing versatility for visiting guests or family.

To maximise natural light, we replaced the original garage door with a window and introduced a large Velux roof light within the flat roof, allowing daylight to enter from both the front and above.

The design and build process ensured the conversion blended seamlessly with the existing home.

The Build Process

The garage conversion build was completed efficiently, with minimal disruption to the homeowners.

Works included insulating the existing garage floor and roof to meet Building Regulations, upgrading the structure to a warm internal environment, and installing A-rated windows fitted by a FENSA-registered installer.

As no structural alterations were required, the conversion progressed quickly, allowing the clients to remain comfortably in their home throughout the build process.

The Result

The completed garage conversion in St Albans delivered a bright, comfortable, and highly functional new living space that exceeded the clients’ expectations. The new room blends naturally with the rest of the house, providing valuable additional accommodation while enhancing both usability and property value.
